All types of travel, including RVing, has changed since the domination of the Smartphone. Travel is now easier, more convenient and even safer because of the many Smartphone Applications (APPs) we have, quite literally, at our fingertips. Apps have simplified travel, specifically RVing, by providing pertinent and detailed information such as points of interests, weather, height clearings, customer reviews and much more. Some of these apps are so integrated into the way millions of people travel, it’s hard to imagine hitting-the-road without them. Below is a short list of what we consider essential RV apps for our full-time RVing travels, and we highly recommend incorporating them into yours.

ALLSTAYS

This is our number one go-to RVing app. Using this app’s handy filter, we can easily locate city, state, national park, national forest, public, private and military campgrounds. We get detailed information about a particular location including its website, address (GPS), phone number, visitor reviews, etc. This app can also filter by RV-friendly shopping center and restaurant parking lots, as well as bridge heights, gas stations and dump locations. ALLSTAYS has a one-time application fee, but there are no adds and its user-friendly filters and reviewers’ comments makes this an essential RV app.

MyRadar

Road conditions and camping locations are always affected by the weather. No one wants to drive through a hurricane or be caught off guard after setting-up camp. To avoid these potential dangers and inconveniences, we use MyRadar weather app prior to and during our travels. At a glance, this app provides current and forecasted weather for the user’s current, stored or searched locations. MyRadar also displays a handy realtime radar track of weather patterns anywhere in the world. This essential RV app provides all these features and offers severe weather notifications to the user’s smartphone without a subscription fee.

YELP

When traveling in unfamiliar cities, RVers are left to judge business reputations by the sign outside its building or the number of cars in the parking lot. Having the insight and opinions of others can not only save you money but also increase positive experiences. And YELP does just that! It’s a user-friendly app that provides details such as location, hours, services and overall customer satisfaction for most businesses. Customer satisfaction is rated in the form of customer reviews and some sort of grading scale. Businesses can also be filtered by recent reviews, number of stars (grading scale) or rater’s status. Why do we use this app? Because we wasted too much money on mediocre-at-best meals from restaurants with poor service. Now that we use YELP, that rarely happens. And we consider anything that saves us money an essential RV app!

The smartphone has become indispensable when it comes to making our lives, including RVing, easier. But besides the obvious conveniences, some of these apps also provide us with a wider safety net. We consider ALLSTAYS, MyRadar and YELP all essential RV apps. What apps do you use when RVing?
